He made some great films , <em>The Burmese Harp, Fires on the Plain, Tokyo Olympiad, Odd Obsession.<\/em> He got interested in filmmaking by watching The <em>Silly Symphonies<\/em> of Walt Disney. These animated films had a worldwide influence and I&#8217;ve heard them mentioned by many filmmakers as being inspirational. Ichikawa&#8217;s first feature <em>A Girl At Dojo Temple<\/em> was made using puppets due to a lack of men during WWII. Sort of like that film about Karen Carpenter a few years ago.
